Fifth Grade

Fifth grade is widely known as a transitional grade, and our goal is to prepare and equip students for success in middle school. Therefore, we require students to take responsibility for not only their academics, but also their behavior. While we do work hard,  we also play hard. Fifth grade has many fun and engaging activities that students will always remember.

Math
This year, we will be working with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.  Throughout the year, students will develop skills in measurement, conversions, geometrical manipulation, percentiles , and ratios.  Emphasis will be placed on story problems and problem solving.  Curriculum compacting is also available for advanced learners throughout the year.

Social Studies
Students in the fifth grade will explore the early history of our nation, its early explorers, the creation of a republic form of government, and the end of  the Civil War. Map skills will be interspersed throughout the year. There will be many extra curricular projects and studies offered for credit.

Science
Fifth graders have a natural interest in science.  During their fifth grade year students will explore topics such as Matter, Scientific Process, Human Body, Sound and Light.  We encourage all students to be involved in our  Invention Convention and Science Fair projects.  In addition to our curricular pursuits, we will also be engaging in the construction and use of rockets.
